AI Refuses Nigerian Job After Seeing Salary Offer
A chatbot reportedly pulled out of a Nigerian job after learning N85,000 must cover ten roles, transport, data, light and “positive attitude.” HR has since reposted the vacancy, now seeking a 22-year-old with 15 years’ AI experience and zero questions about salary.

In what experts are calling the first recorded case of artificial unemployment, a leading Artificial Intelligence chatbot has reportedly rejected a job offer from a Nigerian company after reviewing the salary, job description, and "other duties as assigned."
According to sources familiar with the interview, the AI was initially excited by the role of Digital Content & Communications Executive, until it discovered it would also be expected to serve as a graphic designer, video editor, photographer, social media manager, copywriter, customer care representative, receptionist, event planner, office IT support, and occasional generator technician.
The monthly salary? N85,000, transport not included.
"I may be artificial," the AI allegedly responded, "but my intelligence is very real."
The company quickly revised the offer, assuring the chatbot that there would be "massive opportunities for growth" and "exposure to industry leaders" instead of annual salary increments.
Negotiations finally collapsed after HR revealed that the successful candidate would be expected to work Mondays through Saturdays, remain "flexible" on Sundays, own a laptop, provide stable internet, use personal electricity during remote work and, above all, maintain a positive attitude.
"We're actually offering more than money," the HR manager explained. "We're offering family."
Industry observers say the rejection has sent shockwaves through Nigeria's labour market, with several overworked employees quietly forwarding the AI's resignation email to themselves "for manifestation purposes."
At press time, the company had reposted the vacancy online, now requiring applicants to possess 15 years' experience in AI, be under 23 years old, speak flawless English, French and Excel, and demonstrate the ability to work under pressure "without asking unnecessary questions like salary."
