Before Obi and Kwankwaso Have Announced One Single Policy, They Already Have 59 People With Titles

You know how in Nigeria, before anybody has raised one naira or planned one single event, the committee already exists? Chairman, Vice Chairman, Director of Logistics, Director of Aso-ebi, Publicity Secretary, someone in charge of "Welfare" that nobody can explain, that's just how we do things here. Structure first, substance whenever.

The OK Movement, built around Peter Obi and his running mate Kwankwaso, just proved this is not a wedding-specific tradition. It's a national personality trait.

They unveiled a 59-member Presidential Campaign Council. Fifty-nine. For a support group. Not even the actual political party's own campaign structure, that one, we're told, is still coming, separately, at some point, from the NDC itself. So somewhere out there, an even bigger group of people is waiting for their own badges.

Inside this 59, there's a Director-General, a National Secretary, coordinators for every single one of the six geopolitical zones, coordinators for the FCT, and then, because apparently thirty-something wasn't quite thorough enough, coordinators for all thirty-six states individually. There is not one corner of this country left without somebody now holding a title connected to this movement.

And then the specialty roles start, which is where it gets genuinely beautiful: a Director of Special Duties, whatever those may be. A Director of Procurement, for a campaign that hasn't told us what it's buying yet. And my personal favourite, a Director of the Inter-Ethnic Group in Northern Nigeria, which sounds less like a campaign role and more like a whole federal ministry that got lost and wandered into the wrong building.

The National Secretary said the movement isn't built around any one individual. Fair enough, it's clearly built around fifty-nine of them.
