#BNAIJA ABI: Married, Speaks Italian Almost Perfectly, Fights in Plain English

Abi, 25, model and chef from Osun State, entered Big Brother Naija with two remarkable line items on her profile: she is married, and she speaks Italian "almost perfectly." One week in, neither skill has been sighted. What Nigeria has sighted, instead, is Abi entering a Day 1 altercation with Neche over a wager task, conducted entirely in loud, fluent, locally sourced English. The Italian is being reserved, presumably, for the finale, or for whenever the ancestors demand subtitles.

Let us address the marriage, because the nation's aunties already have. A married woman has voluntarily entered a house of twenty-four cameras, twelve men and zero closed doors, for ten weeks, and her husband is at home watching her on DStv like the rest of us, except he is the only viewer legally invested in the outcome. That man deserves a national honour. Every evening he picks up the remote knowing full well the remote cannot help him. He can only vote like everybody else, and knowing this country, they will make him pay for the SMS.

Abi's stated reason for joining the show is that she "believes she is perfect for television and has always been encouraged to be on TV," which is the most honest manifesto of the season. No fake mission, no charity backstory, no startup she is raising for. She simply believes the camera has been waiting for her since birth, and frankly, after the Day 1 fight, the camera agrees.

Professionally, she is both a model and a chef, an unbeatable combination: she can prepare a full meal, plate it beautifully, photograph it, and then refuse to eat it for body reasons. In the Gambit vote she polled 6.07%, meaning a small but committed slice of Nigeria tried to promote her into unpaid backstage work. She escaped. The wager task did not.

Abi's Week 1 report card, therefore, reads: Italian, pending. Marriage, on hold. Combat, distinction. If she can channel that Day 1 energy into the tasks, she will go far. If she channels it into another housemate, at least her husband will finally get content he can send to his group chat.
