So Don Jazzy has come out to say Ayra Starr changed his life, a simple, sweet, mentor-to-protégé kind of statement, the type any label boss might say about the artist who reminded him why he does music in the first place. And within minutes, Nigerian social media has taken that one clean sentence and built an entire cinematic universe out of it, complete with shipping names and comment section theories nobody asked for.

Because this is Nigeria, and here, no compliment is ever allowed to just be a compliment. Say "she changed my life" about your own signed artist, and somehow the group chats start asking "changed it how though?" as if Don Jazzy just confessed something on Big Brother. The irony is, if any other industry boss said this about an artist they built from scratch, everybody would call it heartwarming and move on. Meanwhile, Ayra Starr herself is out here just doing the actual work, charting internationally, carrying Mavin's global sound on her back, while Nigerians are busy analysing tone of voice and eye contact from a five-second clip like it's forensic evidence.

At some point, somebody needs to remind Nigerian Twitter that not every kind sentence between two people who work together is a plot twist. Sometimes a mentor is just proud, an artist just delivered, and the "life-changing" is simply about watching hard work turn into something bigger than either of them expected.
