FAAN Introduces Pre-Queue Queue At Lagos Airport
FAAN has introduced a Pre-Queue Queue at Lagos airport, where passengers now must first stand in line to qualify for the real line. Officials say it’s a passenger experience upgrade, while travellers say they’ve finally found a queue that queues them back.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has unveiled what it described as a "passenger experience enhancement initiative" with the introduction of a Pre-Queue Queue at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
According to airport officials, the innovation is designed to help passengers prepare mentally and physically before joining the actual queue.
A statement issued on Tuesday explained that the new arrangement would improve orderliness by ensuring travellers first queue to qualify for the main queue.
"Passengers have complained about long queues over the years," an airport official said. "We have listened. Now, instead of walking straight into the queue, you will first join a smaller queue that determines your readiness to queue."
Officials maintained that the policy aligns with international best practices, although they declined to mention any country currently operating a queue before another queue.
Passengers who arrived at the terminal on Wednesday expressed confusion after spending over 40 minutes in what they believed was the immigration line, only to be informed they were still in the "Queue Orientation Area."
"I asked the officer why we were standing here," one traveller said. "He smiled and said, 'This queue is to prepare you for the real queue ahead.' That's when I knew my flight was no longer my biggest concern."
Airport workers insisted the initiative would reduce congestion by spreading passengers across multiple waiting points, adding that plans were underway to introduce a Digital Queue Verification Desk where travellers would receive official confirmation that they had successfully queued.
Aviation analysts described the development as a major milestone in queue management, noting that Nigeria had once again demonstrated its ability to innovate around existing problems without necessarily solving them.
At the time of filing this report, FAAN was reportedly considering a premium express package that would allow passengers to skip the Pre-Queue Queue and proceed directly to waiting in the main queue.
