FRSCC Warns Drivers Against Overtaking Government Convoys
FRSCC has reminded motorists that overtaking a government convoy is not just risky, but a suspiciously ambitious act. Drivers are now advised to surrender the right lane, reduce speed, and apologise silently for reaching the road first.

The Federal Road Safety Convoy Corps (FRSCC) has reminded Nigerians that attempting to overtake a government convoy is not only dangerous but may also be interpreted as an unconstitutional display of ambition.
In a statement released on Monday, the agency advised motorists to immediately surrender the right lane, reduce their speed, and "reflect on their life choices" whenever they hear sirens approaching from behind.
"Government convoys are travelling on official business," an FRSCC spokesperson explained. "Whether that business is commissioning a borehole, attending a meeting, or arriving fashionably late to another event is classified information."
The new advisory also introduces a recommended safety distance of "one kilometre or whatever the security detail considers respectful."
Drivers who accidentally find themselves ahead of a convoy are encouraged not to panic. Instead, they should gradually move aside, avoid eye contact with security personnel, and apologise silently for reaching that section of the road first.
Road users welcomed the clarification.
"I honestly thought we were all using the same highway," admitted one Lagos driver. "Apparently, there are VIP lanes and then there are lanes for taxpayers."
Meanwhile, officials dismissed reports that convoys occasionally create the very traffic they are rushing to escape.
"Traffic is a sacrifice ordinary Nigerians make for efficient governance," another official reportedly said.
The FRSCC has also unveiled a public awareness campaign titled Know Your Lane, featuring instructional videos demonstrating the proper etiquette for encountering flashing lights, including pulling over, switching off your air conditioner, and clapping respectfully as the convoy passes.
At press time, several motorists had reportedly arrived at their destinations just in time to watch the same convoy parked outside the event, waiting for the chief guest to arrive.

Finally, Somebody Is Flying Out of Nigeria for Treatment, and It’s Not a Governor
For once, the medical evacuation from Abuja did not involve a governor, a vague “routine check-up,” or an aide carrying small chops. Nigeria stabilised an Ebola patient, watched 52 contacts, and somehow still had to fight Uncle Emeka’s hot-water-and-salt ministry.
