Step-by-Step Guide to Joining Nigeria's Winning Political Party Before the Results Are Announced
Political analysts have released Nigeria’s most reliable survival guide: never remain in the opposition long enough for the results to embarrass you. The new handbook includes approved phrases like “after wide consultations” and instructions for changing party colours without changing the same smiling face.

Political analysts have unveiled what they describe as Nigeria's most reliable survival strategy: never belong to the opposition longer than absolutely necessary.
The guide, released ahead of another election cycle, encourages Nigerians with political ambitions to remain "ideologically flexible" until a winner is obvious.
"The biggest mistake young politicians make is believing in one party," explained a veteran defector while unpacking boxes in his fourth party secretariat since 2015. "You don't marry a political party. You date it until it stops answering your calls."
According to the handbook, aspiring members should avoid posting campaign posters too early, as they may need to delete them within 48 hours after discovering that "the political atmosphere has changed."
Experts also advise politicians to practise saying the phrase "After wide consultations with my supporters...", as it remains the most acceptable way to explain why someone has suddenly developed lifelong affection for a party they spent the previous six years describing as "the enemy of democracy."
Meanwhile, several printing companies have reportedly introduced Party Transfer Packages, allowing politicians to replace only the colours on their campaign posters while keeping the same smiling photograph and the slogan "A New Nigeria Is Possible."
Citizens have welcomed the initiative, admitting it has become increasingly difficult to remember who belongs where.
"My councillor has changed parties so many times," one voter confessed. "I now wait for him to update his WhatsApp profile picture before I know who I'm supporting."
At press time, hundreds of politicians were reportedly seen stretching before what analysts described as the country's most competitive Olympic event, the ceremonial long jump from the opposition into the ruling party, while insisting the move had "absolutely nothing to do with winning," but was instead "in the supreme interest of the Nigerian people."
