Tinubu Jets Off For Three-Week European Vacation, Nigerians Ask If Somebody Ran The Timing Past Him First
As opposition politicians gathered to plot 2027, the President reportedly chose the classic Nigerian leadership response: Europe for three weeks. Aso Rock insists he remains “fully briefed,” a phrase now old enough to qualify for pension.

So while the opposition was busy holding unity meetings in Abuja, plotting their 2027 comeback, Tinubu apparently looked at his calendar and decided, "you know what, this feels like a good time for a three-week European vacation." Bold move. Very confident. The kind of timing that either says "I'm not worried about any of this" or "somebody in Villa really needs to start syncing calendars."
Now, to be fair, Nigerian presidents traveling abroad is not news, it's basically tradition. Every administration has had its fair share of foreign trips, medical checkups, and "private visits" that somehow always come with a full delegation. But three weeks, right as 2027 preparations are heating up, opposition parties are realigning, and every political commentator in the country suddenly has strong opinions about leadership presence? That's not just a vacation, that's a whole subplot.
Social media, naturally, has already split into two familiar camps. One side is saying leaders deserve rest too, the man is human, let him breathe. The other side is doing the math out loud: three weeks is basically the length of an entire school term, and Nigeria's problems don't exactly pause themselves to respect anybody's holiday calendar. Subsidy wahala doesn't observe leave days. Insecurity doesn't check if oga is currently unreachable in Europe.
Meanwhile, somewhere in Abuja, aides are probably prepping the standard response for any criticism: "the President remains fully briefed and in constant communication," a sentence that has been recycled so many times across different administrations it should have its own retirement package by now.
The real comedy, though, is the optics clash, opposition figures huddled in a room trying to look serious and united, while the man they're uniting against is somewhere sipping something European, completely unbothered, like a boss who left the group project chat on read.
By the time he returns, expect zero acknowledgment that the timing raised eyebrows, a few photos from the trip, and business resuming exactly as usual, because in Nigerian politics, optics only matter until they don't.
