Mavo Went From "Get Your Life Together" to "Let Love Lead" in About 48 Hours, and Honestly That's a Character Arc

Every young star eventually meets the same ghost: the Twitter account they ran before anybody knew their name. For Mavo, that ghost showed up this week in the form of old tweets calling Kizz Daniel "wack" and declaring Fireboy DML straight-up "finished." Bold takes from a university student with opinions and a phone. Slightly less bold once you're actually in the industry with the people you dragged.

His first response to the resurfaced posts was, respectfully, not an apology at all. It was: "I have a record label and a storefront at 22, please get your life together and stop dissecting my past thoughts." Which is a genuinely elite piece of unbothered energy, if not exactly the accountability people were fishing for. The internet's reply was basically: having a storefront at 22 doesn't delete what you posted at 19, and once it's online, it's online.

Somewhere between that clapback and now, growth apparently caught up with him, because Mavo followed up with a full, proper apology. He explained he was "a bad entertainment critic" back in uni before realizing superstars don't actually care about Twitter opinions, admitted his old comments "sadly, unfortunately and unintentionally hurt quite a number of people," and closed with the line that's now doing the rounds: "let love lead."

Here's the actual lesson buried in all this, and it's one every young Nigerian on the internet should be taking notes on: whatever you post before you're famous is just sitting there, patiently, waiting for the exact week you get famous enough for someone to go digging. Mavo went from unknown critic to certified hitmaker fast enough that his old opinions barely had time to age before they came due.

Let love lead, sure. But maybe let a little restraint lead first next time, before the tweet button.
